KNUST Basic School has emerged victorious in the 24th edition of the “Chinese Bridge” Proficiency in Chinese Competition, held this year at the University of Cape Coast (UCC).
The national event, which celebrates excellence in Chinese language and cultural fluency, brought together participants from 10 schools across the country, competing in three divisions: primary, secondary, and tertiary.
KNUST Basic School competed in the secondary division, where they were crowned national champions. The school achieved the highest scores in both the written examination and the on-stage performance segment, which featured Chinese recitals and traditional cultural dances.
Mr. Eric Oti-Attah, Deputy Head, KNUST Basic Schools expressed his pride in the students’ performance and commended the tutors who trained the students for the good work done.
He also revealed that 20 students from the school will soon embark on an exchange programme in China as part of their continued immersion in Chinese language and culture.
“It was our first time competing and to emerge winners among 10 competitors, all of whom did exceptionally well, is an achievement.”
The overall winner, Nana Akua Abokomah Amoako from KNUST Junior High School, expressed appreciation to her family, teachers and friends who supported her during the journey.
She revealed that she was motivated to join the competition due to her love for learning new languages.
“My love for other languages inspired me to learn Chinese and participate in the competition. I want to thank all those who supported me throughout this journey.”
Other students recognized as most outstanding were Valerie Kansanba, Angel Agyaa Owusu Yeboah and Josephine Tipagya Wumbee.
